Excited about MATH!

When I was little I absolutely hated math.  Just being honest.  It was hard, it was difficult for me to grasp, and I couldn't understand why people got so excited about numbers.  I was a reader, through and through.  Wanting to be a teacher though, I had to fake the excitement until I learned how to take that boring curriculum, and spice it up to make it interesting. I've learned that math can be exciting, and that it's my job to make it fun!

Before the age of technology, I would rely on my Frank Schaffer book of ideas for a multitude of worksheets.  I would try to add in hands on manipulatives for as many lessons as possible, and I would have my class create math art.  I still do that.  We also play games, we have math workshop, and we have snowball math fact fights!

Over the years my classroom started being equipped with computers and a magic thing called the internet. :)  I have loved getting my students on kid-friendly websites to work on skills - Internet 4 Classrooms, Think Central, IXL, Math is Fun, etc.  The websites were engaging, and right what my video game driven students have needed.

Then a couple of years ago I found all these great teacher blogs.  I learned the power behind task cards, and I learned that I was able to create meaningful activities for my class in addition to purchasing from other teachers.  So... today I wanted to share this amazing $10.99 deal over at Educents.

I have teamed up with 5 other amazing sellers to load your classrooms with 10 resources to help kids with this tricky math!

My included products will surely be loved by your students!  I can vouch since my own students love them and keep asking to use them!

My Froggie Fraction Task Card Bundle contain 2 sets of Fraction task cards (64 cards) for your students to use.  I love using task cards in my classroom!

I use them during our morning math meeting, during our Hands On math workshop rotation, for intervention, and for playing Scoot.  Scoot is when each kid has a card, you give them a minute or so, and then say "scoot".  At that point they move to the next seat with their answer document and answer the next question.  The kids love playing it!

Task cards come in so handy, and can be used over and over.

My Super Hero Multiplication Fact Boards and Flash Card Bundle is ready for your students to work on their facts in a fun way.  Simply print the grids and you are ready to go.

My students use these in our Math Fact station about once a week.  I have them in sheet protectors, placed in a binder.  They grab one out, and then use a timer to challenge themselves with filling in the grid.  The flash cards were sent home in plastic baggies at the beginning of the year so the kiddos could have something to practice with when working on their homework.

For a limited time this bundle is $10.99 from Educents (which is about 70% off)!  It also includes these other great products so there is sure to be things you love!

Don't forget to use the code "PRES10" this weekend only for an even greater discount.  :)  I LOVE deals!!!

I really believe it's because math is FUN that my students are doing well and understanding the concepts.  What do you do to get your kids motivated for math?
