4 Linky Parties - Happy Last Day of Internet!

So today is the last day I have access to the internet for the next week and a half.. I'm already going through withdrawals... wanted to link up with a bunch of my favorite linky parties.  :)

Favorite Graphic

First up, I found a new-to-me blog over at Across the Hall in 2nd and wanted to link up
a few of my favorite things.  :)

Home
I'm going to sound like my parents for a moment and let you know that I love my recliner.  It's been through a lot, but so many wonderful memories have been made in it.... rocking my babies, reading my books, relaxing, napping, quiet time...

School

I'm a marker junkie.  I have my own pack of these thin type Crayola markers and I don't share with the students.  At least my personal markers I don't share... I do share my bigger markers in my marker pail, but these babies do not get near their little fingers.

Life

These days my Kindle Fire doesn't get far from me.  I need it.  I'm addicted to it.  I found a bunch of free downloads over in the Kindle booklist at Amazon and have downloaded a ton to get ready for the cruise.

Next up is Kristen and Elizabeth's Organization Linky.

One little thing that I use that helps BIG time is having this paper sorter.
Product Image
I know, sounds simple - right?

Of course I don't have my own picture, and I don't have access to my classroom anymore to go hunt down my own paper sorter to take a picture.  So imagine with me...

*First drawer has scratch paper.
*Second drawer has binder paper.
*Third drawer has copy paper.

This is located on my information table, and the kids have access to it when they need a piece.  It keeps everything neat and tidy.  :)

The papers don't fly out (like they did when I used the type of paper sorter in the picture above).

Then I need to link up with Joanne's Motivational Linky.

Something that I love to do with my class is have a candy bin.

It's actually stored in something like this... with a lid that latches on.
Yes, I give them sugar but I do not fill it myself.

At the beginning of the year, I ask parents for donations of candy.  Some kids bring it in and it fills it up... then right before Halloween I send home a note that asks kids to bring in a quart sized bag of their candy - in return they will gain a homework pass.  The candy pours in and I store the extra bags in the bottom drawer of my file cabinet.  I refill as needed... then I use some of those extra bags during our Christmas Sugar Cube Missions to help decorate.  Candy comes in handy for that extra incentive, or that extra reward, or for winners of a class game, or for the students that work extra hard cleaning up their areas at the end of the day... or staying on green...

Last (I promise), I'm linking up with Eberopolis for her Teacher Toolbox Trio Celebration.  For this linky, I want to share 3 things from TPT.

First up is something that I've made that I couldn't live without.

Well, you know how much I love my Task Cards... I LOVE THEM!  I couldn't just pick one of them, so I chose what I use with all of them.  My Task Card Answer Sheets are free over at TPT.

Then is something that I've bought that I love.

Spiral Language Review - Fourth Grade

Ashleigh's Spiral Language Review

She has a year's worth of weekly spiral sheets that tackle all the material that my kiddos need help with.  During testing I was using it as extra review homework.  We also did it together in class, and I used a few as an impromptu quiz.  Click here to follow her store.

Then there is something on my wish list that I'm hoping to get for next year.

I really want these Thinking Stems from One Extra Degree.  I know exactly where I can put them.  These are mini anchor charts with prompts to get kids thinking.

I'm sure you all wanted to know this about me.  It probably made your day.  :)

Have a wonderful day.  We are celebrating Father's Day with my dad today at lunch, then finishing up packing, and trying to cram it all in the car.

  1. Have a wonderful time on your trip!! I feel the same way about the Internet access but I think it's good for us sometimes, though that's REALLY hard for me to admit!

Thanks for taking the time to link up with us...those drawers are so helpful and I really like how you use them. Thanks again Emily!

  2. I love what you use that three drawer paper organizer for! I've seen so many things on Pinterest and teachers have labeled then with "copy" "grade" and "file". I tried that and it just didn't work for me in my room. When I need something copied, I just do it right away. But I LOVE your idea of how you use it. This last year I had this old paper shelving system thing (hard to explain) that I found at a garage sale but the shelves always fell off and then paper would fly all over the floor. So I pitched it at the end of this year. Now I know what I can use this three drawer organizer for! THAKN YOU! :)

  3. I'm a big believer in candy in the classroom. I always have it handy...not just for the kids, but the teachers too. They might need it more.

I completely agree with you on the recliner/rocker. My kids were addicted to that to help them fall asleep. It actually broke down because of all the rocking.

    thanks

  6. I am obsessed about my markers too (crayons, pencils, erasers all fall into that category too)! How do you use the task card sheets in your classroom? I am new to task cards and am not sure what to do with them. Thanks!

    1. Hi! Your email popped up as no-reply blogger, so I'm responding on here :) I love task cards! Basically they are a problem on each card that students need to solve. If you have a set of them, you can do so many things... like have them in a center for students to review material, have parents use them for intervention in class or at home, work in small groups, or just play Scoot.

Scoot is a simple game, you give each student a card on their desk, and then they have a minute to solve it before you say "Scoot". The student scoots to the next seat to solve the next problem. The task card answer sheets have a grid for students to fill in their answers. Binder paper would also work, but sometimes it's easier for students to have a grid/answer document to fill in their work.

Sometimes we play scoot - but instead of telling them where to go, I just pass out the cards, hand out the answer document, and they wander around solving problems as they go without the time limit attached.

      Hope this helps!

  7. I blogged about candy as a motivator as well. Funny.

I like the idea of the three drawer. I am changing some things in my room and this will be a great organizational strategy for me.

    Thanks for sharing

  10. Wow Emily! You've been busy! A week and a half does sound long, but you will fully enjoy yourself and catch up when you get home! I went on a cruise in May for 5 days and it was hard at first, but I actually got to truly relax. I use candy too-for students and teachers! I have two treat jars (chocolate is for teachers!). We have the same great idea...get candy donations the day after a holiday and I offer them 10 tickets! And, you're right, it pours in! LOL! Thanks for linking up! Have fun Emily-we will miss you!
