I'm SO Lucky! {Making Shamrocks}

I know I've shared this before, but in case you need an easy art project this week that makes kids think of how blessed they are... well this might be for you!


Basically it's cutting out 4 hearts of the same size.  My class takes a 9 x 12 piece of green construction paper, fold it in half, then fourths, then eighths.  Trace a half a heart, then cut out.  Then glue the edges around to make a 4 leaf clover.  It's lucky you know.



Making the shape itself isn't the ah-ha moment for the project, it's having the kids think of 4 things they are thankful for... 4 reasons they know they are LUCKY or BLESSED.



These are from this year.  It's so nice to see them not being concerned about STUFF, and have them focus on the important things in life.






 Highly suggest using pen or sharpies to clearly see what the kids wrote.

Rocking the Shamrocks!

It's that time of year again... shamrock time!  Last year I had the kids create them and write 3 reasons they are "lucky".  This year I had them add some examples of personification onto the leaves.  

Here's how we made them... one piece of 9x12 construction paper folded into fourths.  Then we did the final fold and cut out a heart shape.  2 hearts were glued point to point, then the other 2 were glued on to fill in the final shape (all points toward the middle).  The extra green construction paper was then used to cut out a stem.

I used the personification foldable from Jivey's mentor sentence foldable and had them glue the sentences on top before they had to draw a literal example of it.

I'm not really here today...

My boys go to the same school that I teach at.  My eldest is in the classroom next door to me.  When I have a sub, but still have to drop off my kids or pick them up at school I say the same thing to people that I know, "I'm not really here today."  

Today I'm posting over on the new Collaboration Connection blog.  I shared why I absolutely, positively LOVE the month of March.  It's always been special in our family.  I included pictures.  :) 

I also shared an art/writing project that my kiddos enjoyed doing last year - that is on the lesson plan for this coming week.
